Hugh has conducted a number of high-profile excavations, often in collaboration with a range of academic and professional partners. Below is a selection projects from recent years.
Crowland (with Dr D. Wright). The hermitage site founded by St Guthlac in AD699, and later medieval monastic landscape.
Scremby. Late 5th-6th century Anglo-Saxon cemetery.
Tetney (in collaboration with Historic England). Excavation and analysis of an early Bronze Age timber coffin.
Little Carlton. Middle Saxon ecclesiastical and high-status settlement and cemetery.
Thornton Abbey. Medieval monastery and post-Dissolution landscape which included a Black Death mass grave.
Monk Bretton Priory. Post-Dissolution adaptation of a medieval monastery.
